The following activities have been implemented in the year 2023

Program Activities

  • Published human rights capacity building manuals and rights-based dialogue manuals, posters and flyers;
  • Conducted human rights capacity building trainings in Lege-tafo, Sululeta, Burayu, Sebeta and Gelan sub-cities at Sheger City Administration in Oromia Region;
  • Established human rights promotion and protection committees in Lege-tafo, Sululeta, Burayu, Sebeta and Gelan sub-cities at Sheger City Administration. 
  • Conducted capacity building trainings on the participation of women in public decision-making processes in Sheger City Administration in Oromia Region;
  • Issued joint statements on the respect for human rights and peaceful resolution of conflict in collaboration with various national, regional as well as international human rights institutions.

Consultations

  • Attended the launching of the FemWise-Ethiopla National Chapter at the AU Commission in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The aim of the chapter is to strengthening the participation of women in conflict prevention and mediation processes across the regional and national level. More importantly, to undertake a decentralization process to: (i) promote the formation of a critical mass of women engaged in mediation, dialogue and conflict prevention at all levels; (ii) promote the role of women mediators to support regional and national peace efforts by RECs, RMs and Member States; and (iii) leverage on the comparative advantage of women mediators to intervene early in conflict prevention, peace-building and peace efforts;
  • Attended a half day conference on Transitional Justice and Peace-building in Ethiopia. The conference was organized by the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative with the support of the Global Initiative for Justice, Truth and Reconciliation and the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience, and in collaboration with the Partnership for Pastoralists Development. The aim of the conference was to present the recently completed a nationwide, population-based survey exploring Ethiopian attitudes towards transitional justice and peace-building mechanisms. Moreover, it is aimed to understand community perceptions of the core pillars of transitional justice and their views and experiences during periods of violence. It also aimed to seek inputs from stakeholders on potential conflict prevention strategies to create lasting peace in Ethiopia;
  • Attended a workshop organized by Ethiopian Human Rights Commission/EHRC and Ethiopian Civil Society Organizations Council/ECSOC on Transitional Justice/TJ and partnership. The consultation is aimed to bring CSO and Academia for discussion on the potential role they may play in the national TJ process and national dialogue;
  • Attended strategic meeting organized by French Development Organization/AFD to assess the progress achieved and to share the lesson learned, including on how to forward.
